THE GAME
The object of the game is to
eliminate all opposing players by getting them “OUT”.
This may be done by:
-
Hitting an opposing player
with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders. If a
player is bent over and it hits them in the head,
they are out.
-
Catching a LIVE
ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the
ground. LIVE = A ball that has
been thrown and has not touched anything, including
the floor/ground, another ball, another player,
official or other item outside of the playing field
(wall, ceiling, etc.)
-
Stepping outside the
boundaries.
-
A player can block a ball if
they are holding one, but if they drop that ball
when it is hit, that player is out.
-
To reduce stalling, a
violation will be called on a team if they are
holding ALL 6 balls longer than 5 sec.
BOUNDARIES
During play, all players must remain
within the boundary lines. Players may not leave to
retrieve balls. Balls will be thrown in by referee. If
a player steps outside the boundaries, he is out.
Referees will retrieve all balls outside the
boundaries. When a player is out of the game, they must
sit on the benches.
THE OPENING RUSH / START OF
GAME
Game begins by placing all the
dodgeballs along the center line. Players then take a
position behind their end line. Their whole body must
be behind the line. Following a signal by official,
teams may approach the centerline to retrieve balls.
Once a ball is retrieved, it must be taken behind the
attack-line before being thrown.
TIMING AND WINNING A GAME
A game is the best 2 out of 3
matches. The first team to legally eliminate all
opposing players will be declared the winner of that
match. A 5-minute time limit has been established for
each match. If neither team has been eliminated at the
end of the 5-minutes, the team with the greater number
of players remaining will be declared the winner. In
case of a tie at the end of the 5-minute limit, 1-minute
overtime will be played with no middle boundaries. A
ball will be given to each player remaining, up to three
(3) players.
