A Brief History
Owensboro
Christian Church began as a dream in September of 1953 when the
Men for Christ Evangelistic Association of South Central Kentucky had a
vision of starting a New Testament Christian Church in Owensboro,
Kentucky.
The
first service of the church was held in the auditorium of Owensboro High
School on September 27, with 23 people present. Dave Rose, Evangelist of
the Men for Christ, led the service. There were two responses to the
invitation.
In 1994, we relocated to our Lincoln Mall
campus on New Hartford Road. From that point we worshipped in our 700
seat chapel until we were bursting at the seams with almost 2000 people
every weekend. The services were packed and we needed to expand. In
2001, we began a building campaign "Our Dream, His Glory" to raise money
for a new worship center and family life center. In September 2003, we
had our first worship services in our new 1200 seat auditorium. We
opened our new recreation facility in Spring of 2006 and now our
attendance is now pushing 2800.
